Tiwai to provide additional dry winter electricity back-up.

An agreement signed with Meridian Energy, will see New Zealand’s Aluminium Smelter at Tiwai make 20 megawatts (MW) of electricity available to the national grid, if required, over a 12-week period this winter.

Extensive environmental testing at Tiwai concludes low risk of human or ecological impact

NZAS has today released a report undertaken by global professional services company GHD that concluded that there was a limited risk to marine ecology and no increased risk of health effects for people who come into contact with sediment and surface water or consume kai moana inhabiting the surrounding coastal marine area.
